The Fifty NYC – Housekeeping Week 2018

The Fifty celebrated all week 70’s style!!  The week kicked off with management flipping pancakes while the team played “THE PRICE IS RIGHT” where associates had to guess the cost of hotel related items.  Did you know a vacuum cost $69 in 1970!? The week continued with massages, Cuban lunch, dance off, and fresh made smoothies.  The highlight of the week was at the morning standup where the management team arrived  dressed in style and danced to disco music.

The James NoMad – Housekeeping Week 2018

The James NoMad Housekeeping Week was filled with competition, artistic style, and lots of food!  Breakfast started the week off right on Monday! Tuesday the team competed in Minute-To- Win-It games using everyday housekeeping items.  The highlight of the week was on Wednesday where the team enjoyed a full barbeque all cooked by Dave Stewart.  The chicken was the hit and it took him a whole day to prepare.  At Sip & Paint, the team showed their artistic ability, enjoyed some cheese, and sipped some wine.  A scavenger hunt and pizza party concluded this week of fun events.    

 

The Shelburne – Housekeeping Week 2018

The Shelburne hotel enjoyed a week of food, fun, and festive activities to celebrate Housekeeping Week! Breakfast started the week celebration followed by a competitive basketball tournament on Tuesday.  Eight teams competed to get the most baskets in two minutes.  Richie and Agnes were our winning team taking home $100!!! The week continued with massages and a visit from the ice cream truck.  A taco bar on the rooftop conclude the week and associates took home umbrellas as a gift of appreciation.

 

2018 Summer Outing – The Gardens, the James NoMad, the Shelburne and the Surrey

The Gardens, the James NoMad, the Shelburne, and Surrey Hotels joined forces for the 2018 summer outing.

The hotels headed to Forest Lodge in NJ to enjoy a full day of sun, swimming, and eating. People danced, swam, played basketball, and even had some hotel vs hotel competitive games. The water slide and cotton candy were the highlights of the day!

Farewell Summer Interns!

Denihan Hospitality Group was lucky to have three incredible summer interns – Carolyn Najarian, Megan Luna-Victoria and Charlie Rech! We are so grateful for all of their hard work and dedication.

All three interns will be entering their senior year of college – we wish them the best of luck and hope they continue their paths within the hospitality industry.

 

Christmas in July!

The Benjamin celebrated Holidays in July a few weeks ago!

We hosted a successful event where 25-30 of our repeat and new customers were able to see our events spaces come alive for the holidays!

Chef Rezart blew everyone away with his super delicious ravioli, mini pizzas and pigs in a blanket.

We even had a surprise celebrity join in the fun…Summer Santa was a big hit!! Can anyone guess who our Santa was??????????? (HINT: JR)

We celebrated the 2nd Quarter Values Champion as well as July Birthdays yesterday at The Benjamin with coconut cake and pizza! Fidel Blanco won the honor of Values Champion for his dedication and personalization to customer service. Congratulations Fidel and a Happy Birthday to all July babies!

Fifty 2018 Summer Outing

The fifty hotel team headed to Coney Island yesterday for the team summer outing! Everyone enjoyed a full day of rides, beach, adventure and fun! A family style BBQ was served for everyone to enjoy with games all around. A competitive Jenga game between housekeeping and front desk was the highlight of the day with front desk taking the win!

The National Receives an A!

The National Bar and Dining Rooms received another “A” yesterday during the Department of Health Inspection. “A” special thanks to Executive Chef Rezart, Director of Food and Beverage Marta and the entire restaurant and culinary team for their commitment to keeping The National up to a consistently high standard!

We have a great team of people who are truly committed to our guests, hotel and restaurant and it shows!

CNN feature of the Gardens!

The Gardens was featured on a CNN segment: Better food & more options where culinary professionals share different ways some hotels are improving the quality of foods for their guests. The segment was filmed with Gardens partner Meisterdish, which offers an easy way to prepare a gourmet meal in 10 minutes with Fresh ingredients while on the road. The CNN segment is played in a loop at Major NYC airports.

Fiesta at the Gardens!

The Gardens team celebrated the completion of the renovation project with a fiesta!  Big thank you to the entire team for keeping spirits high and taking wonderful care of our guests throughout it all.

A new chapter for The James Chicago…

As Denihan’s ownership and management of The James Chicago comes to an end and a new chapter starts with a licensing agreement, we want to thank all of our Chicago team members for their years of service with the company.

In the ten years Denihan has owned The James Chicago, it has received many accolades – from being named Best Steakhouse in Chicago to being included in Travel & Leisure’s Top Hotels in the US.  In addition, the hotel has consistently achieved the highest guest satisfaction scores in the company and most importantly been voted one of the 101 best places to work in Chicago for 10 years in a row!

All of this would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment to excellent service from the wonderful team at The James Chicago. We are very appreciative of all you have done and proud of all the accomplishments. 

 

The James NoMad – New Cafeteria Celebration!

The James NoMad revealed the new team member cafeteria today and celebrated Fiesta Style with a taco bar and festive music for all to enjoy!

A competitive cafeteria naming contest helped pick the name of the new space! The final vote went to the ‘The James Café’ and our winners, Al Bido and Ashraf Hussain, received gift cards….and bragging rights!

After completing our elevator modernization project, the Fifty management team refreshed our employee entrance to welcome our Fifty NYC superstars. The team had a blast walking the red carpet, taking photos, and enjoying a nice welcome breakfast.

March and April Shout Outs!

Our March Shout Out goes to:  Nicole Haber, Design Director and Amaris Olivo-Brito, Corporate Senior Accountant

Nicole was integral to the completion of the Gardens room renovation project on time! As our design director she worked hard to deliver a universally acclaimed design that was well thought out and very much liked by our owners, associates and guests. She diligently worked with multiple vendors to ensure that all furniture arrived in New York on time. As furniture was installed in the hotel, Nicole was present to work through problems as they arose. She worked closely with the property team to understand their issues and came up with prompt plans to resolve these issues as necessary.

 

Amaris played a key role in working with Design and Construction to deliver the Gardens renovation project on schedule. She promptly provided executed Purchase Orders to facilitate quick payments to multiple vendors. She processed these payments in record time!

 

Thank you Nicole & Amaras for all your hard work!

 

We would also like to recognize Carol Lemire,  who has gone above and beyond in supporting the Executive Office taking on additional responsibilities, ALIS & NYU Conference planning in addition to her busy schedule.  She has been a great support to Patrick, and Brooke in Mary’s absence, often coming in early and leaving late.   She stepped up when there was a need for a Notary – she was the only one who took the initiative, studied hard and passed the test to help out.  Thank you Carol for all you do!

Jonathan is extremely strategic, collaborates with other team members to find solutions to drive results and is a team player. His sense of humor and polite nature motivates the team in stressful times. 

He deserves recognition for driving market share YTD for both The Benjamin and Fifty. He has shown double digit rate growth in addition to exceeding budgeted revenues for The Benjamin. Thank you Jonathan for all you do!

Annual Sales Outing!

Our group, transient, catering and conference service team enjoyed their annual sales outing this week. They visited 3 Long Island Vineyards and sampled the finest of wines! It was a great time had by all!

Gardens team took a break to destress from the redesign project with a little craft therapy and enjoy the beautiful weather.  A treat for the best team to handle a renovation!  Now, we can watch them grow.

1st Quarter Values Champion at The Surrey!

Everyone enjoyed some delicious NYC pizza along with some birthday cake to celebrate our 1st Quarter Values Champion and all April birthdays at The Surrey! Congratulations to Junior Rodriguez for winning the award! His dedication to his team and quick response to guests needs helps The Surrey continue to thrive. We are eager to find our next Quarter Values Champion!

1st Quarter Values Champion at Gardens NYC!

We celebrated our 1st Quarter Values Champion along with our April birthdays in one of the spacious penthouse suites the Gardens has to offer. Congratulations to Sal Khalil for winning the honor! Without associates like you going above and beyond for our guests as well as greeting and assisting guests as soon as they walk through our door the Gardens wouldn’t be the warm and friendly place many have come to enjoy! Also, a happy birthday to everyone that celebrates in April!

Gardens NYC New Suites!

It’s official! Gardens’ new suites finally made their debut this month. And with that, we hosted an Open House for our corporate, Hospital, Fit, and Consortia clients to get a feel for the new design. At the event we had food catered by Grace’s Market, Wine, Beer, and Prosecco to sip, florals in each of the four show rooms from our new hotel partner Ode a la ROSE, a live cooking demo by another partner, MiesterDish, and fun giveaways like one night stays, gift certificates for each of our partners including a Fishs Eddy dish set, and more!

The new suites, especially the 180-degree powered recliners, were well received. We’re pleased to announce that there was positive feedback, excitement and a nice time had by all.

Thank you to all those who could make this event possible on property and at corporate!

 

Gardens NYC St Patrick’s Day Fun!

Gardens NYC was feeling lucky during the week leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. We decorated the our lobby with four leaf clovers, leprechaun hats and caldrons filled with chocolate gold coins to get our guests excited and feeling just as lucky as we are.

To make this an extra fun event, we changed up our social sips where guests could enjoyed beer bread, St. Patty’s Day themed cupcakes, Guinness and a special contest to liven up our guests and lobby space. With that, we’re excited to announce the winners of our #StPatricksDay Week giveaway at Gardens NYC. One lucky family found the leprechaun’s hidden treasure and won a $50 AmEx card to spend during their stay in NYC. It’s the little things that surprise and wow our guests. 🙂

And, with the help of James La Russo posting on @AffiniaHotels Instagram story, our social sips saw a little more action than we would typically see! Thanks, James! Let’s keep them coming! Wine Wednesday, anyone?

Gardens NYC Pizza Truck Incentive!

The Contact Center enjoyed customized personal pizzas and time off of the phones as a thank you from Gardens NYC for booking over $400K in revenue for the month of November!  What better representation of NYC than pizza from a fire truck, happy they enjoyed!

 

Gardens NYC hosts wine hour at Corporate!

Thank you to all at the Corporate Office for attending the #GardensGetsRefreshed wine hour on Thursday, February 15th.  The time was spent chatting about the project and for the team to share in the excitement of the new product coming on line so very soon! 

January Shout Outs!

Our January Shout Winner is:

Tulsi Drepaul, Senior Director of Purchasing who successfully negotiated down multiple Gardens NYC renovation vendors to over 50% reductions from list pricing. Tulsi has saved the project close to $100K!. She has worked with the D&C team to find multiple James NoMad carpet options.  At all times Tulsi has demonstrated a keen willingness to help and a great understanding of how to professionally purchase.

Tulsi was also instrumental in negotiating a new deal with Diptyque for the bath amenities at the Surrey. If not for Tulsi’s creativity and negotiating skills we would have had to move away from this great brand and potential partnership for a lower cost option.  We now have a product that costs less than the budget/target and is perfectly aligned with The Surrey brand!

We would also like to recognize:
Dominik Gomez, Regional Director, Revenue Management  Dominik continues to step in and support hotels during times when we do not have a DORM in place as well as continuing with his other revenue duties. Dominik has stepped into Chicago and has dug into how we are set up in price positioning, looked at all our channels and made some positive changes which has yielded positive results.  

Dominik was also instrumental in getting all revenue budgets in new formats for sales goals purpose.  Dominik kept this process going and provided information as needed.

Dominik spends time each week and month to call out and give shout outs to hotels team based on STR results.  He looks for the positive and highlights those as well as offers areas of improvement so, this is Dominik’s time for a shout out!

And finally a big shout out to Carla Paul, Director Revenue Management who in addition to the Surrey oversaw the Nomad and very happy to do so.  

Your Valentine is at The James Chicago

Chocolate covered strawberries – hand dipped and decorated by our own Executive Team – were delivered to all team members on Valentine’s Day morning as a special treat of recognition. Our famous “Buddy Grams”, that team members can send to each other, were also available again this year. Valentine’s Day in full bloom!
