One of the thrills of operating a hotel is when guests, associates and owners expectations are all exceeded. However, it is especially rewarding when everyone’s hard work and laser like focus results in a hotel enjoying financial success. When a hotel exceeds its budgeted goals, particularly in GOP (Gross Operating Profit) everyone’s efforts are validated and should be celebrated!
So, we are very excited to announce that three of our hotel properties have exceeded their GOP goals for the month of November. This accomplishment is certainly newsworthy. The hotels are the Shelburne NYC, Fifty NYC and The Benjamin!
Success always comes down to the team but we would like to recognize the General Managers of the hotels that led their teams – Jennifer Baldwin (Shelburne NYC), Brian Gehlich (Fifty NYC) and a special recognition of both Brian Gehlich and Chris Olthoff’s work at The Benjamin, particularly in the absence of an acting General Manager.
The teams of these hotels should be proud – Revenue Management and Sales and Marketing for driving the revenues and the operating departments that clearly understand efficiency and flow through – Housekeeping, Engineering, Food and Beverage and Front Office. Finally, the thoughtful stewardship and partnership of the Financial Services and Executive Committee teams is evident at these hotels.
Congratulations to the teams of these hotels and we look forward to their continued success and setting the example for all our hotels in the portfolio.
Just prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, Brooke Barrett was invited to spend an evening with 60 NYU Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism students for its popular Fireside Chat series, an event that is designed to give students the opportunity to get ‘up close and personal’ with great leaders of the hospitality industry.
Brooke reflected on Denihan’s history and success, and offered advice to students to help them reach their own career goals. Dr. Lynn Minnaert, Co-chair, Clinical Assistant Professor also moderated a Q&A with Brooke, allowing her to elaborate on a variety of subjects including women in hospitality, the changing landscape of boutique/lifestyle hotels, building successful brands, and remaining profitable in today’s competitive and rapidly changing environment. The evening wrapped up with a reception giving students the opportunity to mingle with Brooke on a more informal level.
